Autumn To Do list
Try out a new flavoured tea Whilst a cup of ‘builders’ tea is great, try going off-piste a bit and tickle your taste buds with some new flavours. You can find some great combinations out there; my current favourite is Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference – Blackberry, Apple, Beetroot & Ginger Infusion.
Take a hike!
Not literally you understand, but there’s nothing quite like wrapping up and getting out in the fresh air for a lovely walk. A walk that gets the wind in your hair, your cheeks all rosy and the blood pumping. And if you have a four-legged friend to take with you so much the better!
Burn a new scented candle
Autumn and winter are the best times to try out candles, in my opinion. There are some wonderful scents around currently, and what’s hitting the spot for me just now is this Tonka Bean and Pumpkin candle from those fab people at Yankee Candle. Along with No.1 (Lime, Basil & Mandarin) from ALDI and Storstad from IKEA
Get your Hygge on!
For those of you that don’t know Hygge is a Danish word meaning cosiness that engenders feelings of contentment and well-being. This means cosy blankets and sumptuous cushions. Low level lighting in light painted rooms. Having the outdoors indoors, with a pleather of plants. More on Hygge soon!
Winter proof the garden
I wouldn’t consider myself a gardener, but thanks to Covid-19, and the subsequent lockdown, it turns out I do have a couple of green fingers. Autumn is a perfect time to winter-proof your garden. Cut back bushes, cut the lawn, plant some bulbs, and dig out the bird table, give it clean so you can feed the birds through the winter.
Snuggle up with a new read
There’s something just lovely about snuggling up in a quiet house, with a hot mug of tea and a good book! I grant you a quiet house in the currently climate isn’t always easy to achieve, but setting aside some ‘me time’ so you can wallow in the words of another is sacred… give it a go!
Try out a new recipe
The go-to for autumn would of course be a pumpkin recipe, but I’ve decided to come late to the banana cake arena with this lush treat. Now I am not a fan of banana bread, hence the reason that during lockdown I didn’t jump on that bandwagon. HOWEVER, this recipe is much more along the lines of Carrot Cake and who can’t resist that. I make things with yarn. No that’s not a confession, well it kind of is, but more a statement of fact and you too can get your creative juices flowing! What’s that I hear cry, you don’t have a creative bone in your body? Rubbish is what I say. If you can dress yourself then you’re creative. If you can cook, you’re creative. Have a look on YouTube for a ‘how to’ video and just have a go! This is one of my creations, a bathroom tidy.
Find a new red wine and share it with friends
Another of my fave things to do is drink red wine. Of course you can do this in the summer with a red meat, but there’s something special about drinking a lovely flavoursome Malbec or Rioja, with a few nibbles and some good company.
So there you have it. My ‘Autumn To Do’ list with not a pumpkin carving in sight. Ok, so it’s not all out-doorsie, and some of it is eating and drinking, but there is lots you can do in the cooler months. Have fun with your own ‘Autumn To Do’ list.
